Boulder Grassroots for Obama (BGO) is a grassroots network for Boulder County, Colorado. Our mission is to work synergistically as a coordinator, organizer and optimizer for political activities centered in Boulder County to support the election of Senator Barack Obama as President of the United States in November 2008. BGO planned the first Obama event in Boulder, and is currently active planning several fundraisers and events, as well as facilitating communication of important information. BGO is lead by a Steering Committee which meets every other week. Steering Committee Members: History In March of 2007, Jessica Wittmer started a group on my.barackobama.com called "BoulderforObama". A few weeks later, about 30 people met in a coffee shop to talk about why they were supporting Obama's candidacy and how they could help. From that discussion came the first Obama event in Boulder County - an Obama booth at the Boulder Creek Festival. The event was a huge success! We signed up over 100 volunteers, raised over $1,000, and gave away lots of buttons, bumper stickers and information flyers. Over the following summer, BGO began building a precinct captain organization throughout the county to register voters and educate people about caucus. We recruited more than 50 precinct captains before Obama for America had an office in Colorado. Volunteers were also putting their energy into many projects, including those listed below. After the Colorado precinct caucuses, BGO worked to make sure every delegate vote for Obama was counted by organizing delegates for the county and state caucuses. Now that Barack Obama has won the primary and has the full support of our well-organized Boulder Democratic Party, we've adjusted our efforts to focus on fundraising, special events, and communication.
